Next Step Recycling Environment Community Economy

Dear Lorraine,
I'm writing to thank you for your generous donations of computers... This program would not exist without help from organizations such as yourself.
Sincerely,

Volunteer Opportunities

What do volunteers do at NextStep?

Volunteers are critical to the operation and survival of NextStep. We need volunteers to dismantle computers, receive donations, rebuild computers, staff the thrift store, work in our offices, and provide technical support and training.

  • Find new donors of equipment and software
  • Pick up donations
  • Sort and match donated items
  • Check and clean parts and systems
  • Recreate whole systems from donated parts
  • Help people select a system that matches their needs
  • Work in NextStep ReUse Store sorting software, arranging systems, receiving money
  • Dismantle electronic hardware to keep e-waste out of the landfills
  • Participate in computer round-ups in rural communities
  • Maintain our facilities

The Benefits of Volunteering

You're helping the community by providing technology to lower income, disenfranchised people in Oregon and elsewhere. You get access to reusable technology at low or no cost. Your volunteer time can add up to earn you a free computer system!

You can also:

  • Provide a computer for someone who can't afford one;
  • Enjoy the challenge of making old computers work again;
  • Learn about fundraising and grant writing!
  • Work with and learn about computers you have never seen before;
  • Keep obsolete electronics out of landfills;
  • Work with other friendly and dedicated volunteers.
