Oregon E-Cycles is a 2009 statewide program, financed by manufacturers, that provides responsible recycling of computers, monitors and TVs. After Jan. 1, 2010, anyone bringing seven or fewer items at a time may recycle their electronics at no charge at participating collection sites. Oregon E-Cycles does NOT provide free recycling of other electronic devices.
America Recycles Day in Springfield Eugene, Oregon, 11/10/2009
NextStep Recycling, City of Springfield Public Library, and M.E.C.C.A. (Material Exchange Center for Community Arts) are joining forces in celebrating America Recycles Day (ARD). Join us at the Springfield Public Library, 5th St and B St. (in City Hall), on Saturday, Nov 14, 2009 from Noon to 4pm.
We are celebrating OUR national holiday, America Recycles Day (ARD). We are joining up with M.E.C.C.A. and the Springfield Library to tell the world that REUSE is the NEW RECYCLE!
As you may know, for the past five years NextStep has been the only resource for Lane County residents to recycle their block foam (EPS foam or, commonly called Styrofoam). In August, we stopped taking the material because it was no longer financially feasible for us to handle this material. Community members have been understanding but really hoped we could find another solution.
Well, it's here! Our recycling pals over at St Vincent De Pauls are now taking block foam from the public-residents and business alike! Woo hoo!
Come on down! Recycling your electronics at NextStep protects our children from potential exposure to Barium, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Lead, Mercury. Phosphorus, and Brominated flame retardants (BFRs)! According to the EPA's recent post, children eat, drink and breathe more per pound than adults. When food, water or air is polluted, children are more affected by that pollution when compared to adults. Let's work together to keep these toxins outa our landfill.
Lane County nonprofit electronics refurbisher/recycler NextStep Recycling supports regulation of electronic waste disposal, emphasizing reuse and accountability for all handlers of electronic waste.
NextStep Recycling announces its support of draft legislation moving through the Energy and the Environment Committee of the Oregon House of Representatives. That committee will recommend a bill to the full House in mid-March.
